International students launch theacademic year at CPIT
International studentswere first to launch into the 2012 academic year at CPITyesterday with some 60 students from around the worldcommencing their English language studies.
New studentsfrom China, Taiwan, Saudi Arabia and Korea joined a group of12 from the Korean Bible University, which regularly sendsstudents to CPIT for four-week English and New Zealand StudyCourses.
Students who are studying for theInternational English Language Testing System (IELTS)exams at the end of the month were already working hard togain their qualifications in time to enrol in mainstreamprogrammes at CPIT.
CPIT International Director BethKnowles said all the students were full of energy aftertheir summer holidays and keen to get started on theirstudies.
“It’s going to be an interesting year andthere are very positive signs that it will be a greatyear,” she said. “We have five Japanese groups coming inFebruary to study English for example. CPIT was recentlyselected as the new Cambridge English Examination Centre forChristchurch, which will attract new international studentsto Canterbury and also upskill workers who are here for therebuild and recovery of our city.”
The English and NewZealand Study Course students, meanwhile, will study Englisheach morning during their four weeks in Christchurch andexplore Christchurch in the afternoons with trips planned toattractions such as Willowbank and the Antarctic Centre aswell as a meeting with Deputy Mayor Ngaire Button.
Student YouJin Kim, 21, from the Korean Bible University,said she was looking forward to studying at CPIT. “I camehere to enhance my English and to travel to anothercountry,” she said. “It is veryexciting!”
