Care and Accommodation

Living in a Homestay

Your Homestay Co-Ordinator at Canterbury Link College will find suitable Homestay carers that meet all the requirements of the Ministry of Education Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students and the needs of the individual student. We have a team of Homestay caregivers who have proven to be very caring and helpful to our students.

Students staying with a New Zealand family

A weekly boarding fee is charged at $200 per week for full board
Students have their own room with a quiet area, suitable for study
They share facilities with the family
All meals are provided
Students are encouraged to join in family activities

Students aged over 18 years

When students first enter the country, they are strongly encouraged to stay in homestay accommodation for the first three months. This will help them with learning day to day English and New Zealand customs. However, students may choose the accommodation which they prefer, as long as the style of accommodation does not adversely affect their academic studies.

Students aged under 18 years

Students aged under 18 years must live in approved homestay accommodation, unless living with parents or a legal caregiver or guardian.

Students who wish to go flatting

Students who wish to go flatting or boarding on completion of their time in homestay accommodation should talk to the Pastoral Care Team for information on independent living in Christchurch. A room is expected to cost $100.00 per week.
Refer to our Pocket Money Guide for the living costs in Christchurch.

Our main priority is to ensure the safety and security of our students while they are studying with us. We offer good support to all our students and our Pastoral Care Team, with the support team, aims to ensure quality pastoral care for all our students.
